Our Team of Experts

Dr. Barzin Bahardoust

Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Barzin Bahardoust is an accomplished engineer and entrepreneur with a passion for innovation and a track record of success. He received his B.A.Sc. degree in Engineering Science from the University of Toronto (U of T) in 2003 and earned his M.A.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from U of T in 2006. He completed his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with a focus on materials interface design from U of T in 2012.

Dr. Bahardoust co-founded Canadian Plasma Resources (CPR), a company focused on collecting source plasma for further manufacturing into plasma-derived medicines. Under his leadership, CPR received its establishment license from Health Canada in 2014. As CEO, he has led the establishment, regulatory approval, and operation of 8 plasma collection centers across five Canadian provinces, with a total annual collection capacity of 400,000 L.

Dr. Bahardoust's innovative approach and ability to navigate complex regulatory frameworks have been critical to CPR's success. He is committed to driving business growth through technology-driven solutions and a customer-centric approach. His expertise and passion have earned him recognition as a leader in his field, and he continues to push the boundaries of the plasma collection industry.

Mr. Reza Shojaei

Chief Operating Officer

Reza Shojaei is a highly experienced Chief Operating Officer with over 25 years of international experience in management and establishing human blood and plasma collection centers, as well as quality management systems in GMP-regulated manufacturing systems. As the COO of Canadian Plasma Resources, he leads the company's global operations, demonstrating his expertise in a variety of business services and solutions.

Reza joined Canadian Plasma Resources in 2012 and played a key role in designing and implementing an advanced Quality Management System for the organization. Prior to joining CPR, he received a Master's degree in Microbiology and a Post Graduate Diploma in Pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs. In 2021 he received his Six Sigma Green Belt certificate from University of Toronto. Currently, Reza is an executive MBA candidate.

Reza's outstanding leadership and extensive knowledge have been instrumental in the success of Canadian Plasma Resources. He is committed to driving business growth and operational excellence through innovation, collaboration, and a customer-centric approach. He is recognized for his ability to provide excellent services to clients and staff, and his passion for delivering technology-driven solutions that create value for the business.

Dr. David P. Sheridan

Medical Director

Dr. David Sheridan was raised in Saskatoon and attended medical school at the University of Saskatchewan. He trained in Hematology and Transfusion Medicine at McMaster University in Ontario. He spent his career working in Hematology and Transfusion medicine in Saskatchewan but now restricts his practice to work at CPR in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. During his career he was promoted to a Professor of Medicine at the University.

He has experience in transfusion medicine at the hospital level being a medical director for the regional hospital health authority for over 35 years. He also has experience in blood collection having worked for 14 years for the Canadian Red Cross before it transitioned to the present CBS. In addition to this he has been working for Canadian Plasma Resources since 2015 and has grown with the organization.

Dr. Bruce Cameron

Medical Director

Dr. Bruce Cameron attended medical school at the University of Western Ontario in London. He trained in Hematopathology and Transfusion Medicine at the University of Ottawa. After working several years in Saskatchewan Dr. Cameron moved to New Brunswick where he became division head of pathology and regional director of transfusion medicine.

Dr. Cameron is a Canadian Certified Physician Executive (CCPE) who has a special interest in quality assurance and laboratory management. In addition to a busy hematopathology practice, he continues to play a significant role in provincial committees which monitor and coordinate transfusion medicine services. Dr. Cameron joined Canadian Plasma Resources in January 2017.

Dr. Dale Young

Medical Director

Dr. Young attended medical school at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon. After receiving her medical degree she completed her post graduate fellowship in Anesthesiology at the University of Calgary. She then joined the Department of Anesthesia at the Foothills Medical Centre where she was also Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary.

She has 30 years of experience in the field of blood collection, initially at the Canadian Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service and subsequently as medical director at Canadian Blood Services in Calgary. Plasmapheresis was a particular interest of hers and in her years prior to retirement from Canadian Blood Services she provided medical expertise to the plasmapheresis clinics in both Calgary and Edmonton. She joined Canadian Plasma Resources in 2021.

Ms. Nada Mohammed

Regulatory Affairs Director

Nada Mohammed is the Director of Regulatory Affairs at CPR and serves as the primary liaison to federal and provincial regulatory authorities. She has more than 10 years of in-depth experience in obtaining blood establishment authorizations, amendments, and establishment licences. With her strategic regulatory oversight, she has successfully obtained on-time approvals for several key regulatory filings including CPR’s first authorization. As one of the early contributors, since 2012, Nada has been an integral part in shaping CPR's success in the Canadian regulatory landscape.

She holds a M.Sc. degree in Lab Medicine and Pathobiology from the University of Toronto (U of T) and a Post Graduation Diploma in Regulatory Affairs. Before joining CPR, she completed several research internships at hospitals and laboratories across Toronto. She applies the same meticulous approach and a relentless attitude to achieving excellence in her current role at CPR.

Nada’s contributions to CPR go beyond regulatory affairs. She has single-handedly set up several complex systems at CPR, including electronic questionnaire, document control system, and key functionalities in donor management software. Her ability to generate innovative solutions to problems of any scale is well recognized at CPR and she continues to be a driving force in CPR's success.

Ms. Shelby Rendall

Quality Systems Director

Shelby Rendall is a dedicated quality assurance specialist with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Saskatchewan. Shortly after the completion of her university degree, Shelby joined the Canadian Plasma Resources team in Saskatoon in 2017 and has steadily risen within the ranks of the company to her current position of Quality Systems Director.

As Quality Systems Director, Shelby is responsible for maintaining a high standard of quality assurance throughout all Canadian Plasma Resources centers as well as the corporate office. This is where her passion lies as Shelby is dedicated to the continuous pursuit of excellence in the field of quality assurance and instills this notion throughout not only the Quality System Management Department, but throughout the entire company.

Shelby’s adaptable and meticulous nature, coupled with her biomedical science background and diverse experience within Canadian Plasma Resources, makes her an invaluable asset to the Canadian Plasma Resources team. Her versatile and pacesetting leadership style has propelled the company’s trajectory to new heights, facilitating the rapid growth and expansion of new plasmapheresis centers across the country.

Mr. Innocent Gasana

Operations Director

Innocent Gasana is an accomplished Operations Director who joined Canadian Plasma Resources in 2015, bringing with him over 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and food manufacturing industry. His dedication and professionalism have helped him to develop a strong leadership, organization, and operations track record.

As a seasoned production manager with nearly a decade of experience, Innocent has honed his decision-making, people management, and communication skills. He has a proven track record of overseeing production and operational statistics to make improvements and drive greater efficiency among all national production employees.

In his current role as Operations Director, Innocent plays a critical role in overseeing the manufacturing process. He ensures that production, performance, and quality standards are met, while also assisting the Chief Operating Officer with long-range operating goals, expansion efforts, and new and advanced technology implementation. Innocent's extensive manufacturing experience and ability to lead teams to success make him a valuable asset to Canadian Plasma Resources.
